Practise beside the jar
Stand or sit by the shelf, eyes resting on the posy at half focus, and take ten counted breaths with the exhale longer than the inhale. The flower is a mandala that fades honestly, which recommended it over most alternatives.
This is meditation reduced to its kitchen-sized version, and the kitchen-sized version is the one that happens. Stillness practised where the kettle lives arrives available where the day lives.
Let the practice be short
Ten breaths, not twenty minutes; the sequence survives mornings that would defeat a session. Attach it to the jar’s water change so the two habits hold each other up.
Gentle stretching afterwards, one fold and one roll of the shoulders, completes the minute. The practice and the posy fade together at the week’s end, and both are renewed, which is the arrangement’s quiet lesson.
